About your surgeon

weichin chen, m.d.        Board certified

The North Shore of Oahu has been my home for the past 8 years. I went to North Carolina for my Doctorate of Medicine (M.D.) at Wake Forest University. Subsequently I finished my orthopedic residency at United States Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii. I practiced at Tripler Army Medical Center as an academic professor for four years taking care of active duty members, dependents, veterans, and also civilians. I currently practice as a ABOS Board Certified general orthopedic surgeon, with emphasis on sports medicine, trauma, hand, and also foot and ankle issues.

During my deployment to Jalabad, Afghanistan; I have taken care of CIA, special forces, and Tri-service members. I know the military bureaucracy. In addition, I am the future President (2017) of the Hawaii Orthopedic Association; an association that helps educate local orthopedic surgeons around Hawaii. The residents at Tripler Army Medical center elected me as the Resident Teacher of the Year in 2015, and I continue to be involved in academic medicine at Queens Medical Center. I have published journal articles, and continue to be active in research. Being a North Shore resident, I have become an avid big wave surfer outside of work.

Having any orthopedic injury can be frustrating as it affects your ever day life, career, sporting activities, and function. Most orthopedic issues can be treated without surgery, and occasionally some will require surgery.  At West Oahu Orthopedics, I will personally guide you through your treatment process.

I want the best outcome for you, and this requires a team approach. Throughout your medical care, you will meet front desk clerks, nursing staff, other orthopedic surgeons, operating room staff, anesthesiologists, and therapists. We all work together to maximize your outcome!
